Motions

The following is a sample of motions I have brought before the Council during my time as a County Councillor.

March 2010

“That Roscommon County Council honour Cathy Dervan, Portrunny, Knockcroghery for winning an All-Ireland in the senior solo singing category at the 2010 Readoiri Finals held recently in the University Concert Hall Limerick and Amy Kelly, Leonie Beirne, Ciaran Casserly, Ronan McGowan & Aisling Hoey of Whitehall for winning an All-Ireland in the group singing category at the same event.”

January 2010

“That Roscommon County Council honour Sionann O’Reilly Collins of “Innisfree”, Barrymore, Kiltoom, Athlone for her outstanding multidisciplinary sporting achievements and particularly for winning the All Ireland Pentathlon Championships, held in Kilkenny during September 2009 and for being on the winning Irish International Tetrathlon team held at Bedale, UK in June 2009.”

November 2009

The Roscommon County Council ensure immediate action from the NRA regarding inadequate road signage and the flooding of agricultural land along the new Athlone/Ballinasloe Motorway.

June 2009

“That Roscommon County Council honour Leon Brydone, Kiltoom, Athlone who valiantly retained his ITF European Championship Taekown-Do title during the 2009 championships held recently in Croatia.”

June 2009

“That Roscommon County Council prepares a report regarding the total number of housing estates that need to be taken in charge by the council throughout the County and how many housing estate takeovers are currently being processed by planning enforcement”.   

August 2008
“That Roscommon County Council welcomes the government decision on the services at Roscommon County Hospital negotiated by Minister of State Michael Finneran and calls on the people of Roscommon to support the Hospital by using its services”

That Roscommon County Council calls on Veolia Water Ireland Limited to amend their current billing systems so that customers with multiple connections receive a single invoice rather than the current arrangement of a separate invoice for each connection arriving at alternating times”

September 2007
"That the HSE board members of Roscommon County Council compile a comprehensive report on their visits to Roscommon County Hospital and the current services being provided at the Hospital."

“That Roscommon County Council expedite works on the junction adjacent to Finneran’s pub in Ballymurray and if necessary move to Compulsory Purchase Order in the interest of public safety”

That Roscommon County Council honour Caoimhe Kenny, Carrowloughan, Kiltoom, Francis Dowling, Carnagh Kiltoom, Maura O’Connor, Barrymore, Kiltoom and Nollaig O’Scannlain, Coosan, Athlone, all of Athlone Community College who recently won the All-Ireland final of the Concern Debates against Gort Community School in UCD.”

March 2007
“That Roscommon County Council would liaise with interest groups in the village of Knockcroghery and throughout the County so that a fitting memorial is established in Knockcroghery in memory of the late Jimmy Murray.”

“That Roscommon County Council makes general maintenance staff available in each engineering area to deal with small maintenance issues as they arise.”

November 2006
“That Roscommon County Council would create rear entrances to the residential dwellings on Henry Street Roscommon by way of new access roadway.”

“That Roscommon County Council would honour the following members of St. Coman’s club and their mentors who won world titles at the World Handball Championships held recently in Edmonton, Canada at the next civic reception. Emer Coyle, Deirdre Donohoe, Marianna Rushe, Katie Costello and Leona Doolin.”

"That Roscommon County Council provide Toilet, Shower and pump out facilities at Lecarrow Harbour".

"That Roscommon County Council rejects the attempt by the hospital services executive to downgrade the surgery facility/services at Roscommon County Hospital"

“That Roscommon County Council welcomes the substantial financial allocation for the health services of County Roscommon recently announced by the Health Service Executive”

April 2006
"That Roscommon County Council honor the Knockcroghery Macra Na Feirme Drama group, Lorraine O'Connor, David Connaughton, Michael Gately, Maria Fallon and producer Anne Gillespie, who recently became All Ireland drama champions".

"That Roscommon County Council limit the number of chargeable agricultural water meters to one per farmer and that private water scheme users receive financial allowances in line with annual water scheme running and maintenance costs".

February 2006
"That Roscommon Co Council immediately produce the long awaited Roscommon Town Traffic plan. Also in view of the unbelievable parking problems in Roscommon Town ,the council consider the introduction of restricted time parking immediately. Unless restricted time parking is introduced without delay, the economy of the town centre will be damaged beyond repair “

January 2006
“That Roscommon County Council takes steps to ensure that all roadway reinstatements are completed to a satisfactory standard following pipe-laying and general service provision”.  

“That Roscommon County Council calls on the Minister for Justice to enact radical legislation and adopt innovative methods to deal with the chronic substance abuse problem in the country”.

October 2005
